Spurn Lighthouse
Ferrey and Mennim were invited by the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust to work on the iconic Spurn Lighthouse. We assisted with fund raising which led to a range of grants being awarded. These enabled an in-depth renovation to be carried out along with adaptations for visitors. The works included complex repairs to the wrought and cast-iron cupola and lantern, glazing repairs, elevation works, services replacement, internal finishes renewal, and the installation of interpretive signage, installations and visitor information.
Due to the very exposed site the resulting complex building physics had to be carefully considered and a weatherproof but breathable building was achieved.
As many as 1000 visitors during a single bank holiday day now visit the lighthouse despite its inaccessible location. It has been fundamental to the Yorkshire Wildlife Trusts on-going care and education work for this fragile, dynamic, natural environment.
